Thank you for your interest in joining the Education & Training Foundation’s Board.
The ETF is a growing body with a huge responsibility. Its task is to develop the capacity and capability of the Further Education (FE) teaching profession and its leadership.
The quality of England’s Further Education system is vital for economic growth, social mobility, community cohesion and international competitiveness. No education system can exceed the quality of its teachers – or its leaders. The ETF’s role is key to our unlocking growth and tackling educational disadvantage.
The ETF was founded five years ago after several unsuccessful previous programmes. Learning from them, the ETF has been built to a different blueprint: a partnership between Government and the Further Education sector. We are a charity which is largely funded by Government and draws its Membership from the umbrella bodies of the FE system, representing Colleges and other providers of adult education and training.
The ETF has had some success in its first five years. It has:
- Established a high level of professional expertise in CPD, training and development
- Proved its ability with high quality, leader and workforce development programmes
- Attracted top-class partners, such as Oxford University’s Said Business School
- Won the confidence and trust of teachers, leaders and Government
- Responded to changing teaching and Government needs and come out stronger.
The right Chair of the Board brings strong leadership and insight to the Foundation. The Chair of the Board is independent, plays a key role in the development and maintenance of the strong stakeholder and government relationships which the ETF’s success has been built on and needs to bring a capacity to forge robust strategy in a complex operating environment.
The next Chair will have a senior business or public service background gained at a strategic level. We are particularly interested in attracting individuals who bring independence of perspective, are committed to the mission and values of the ETF and who bring the skills and experience required to play a full and active part at Board level. The ETF values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
We are also recruiting our new Chair of Audit Committee to succeed Steve Freer who is stepping down in December 2019. This role will play a key role in the governance of the ETF and will be a full member of the main board.
If you’d like to have an informal and confidential conversation about the role please contact our advising consultants at GatenbySanderson, Paul Aristides (020 7426 3987, email@example.com or Emma French (07977 225513, firstname.lastname@example.org).
I encourage you to apply. I have found my time as Chair constructively challenging and very rewarding.
Paul Mullins OBE
